The Scott Skyhawk boys basketball team arrives at the Charleston Civic Center for the state Class AA basketball tournament at about 11 a.m. today.
Following a 9 a.m. pep rally at Scott High, Coach Nick Cabell and his team traveled Corridor G (US Route 119) to the state capital. The team planned to lunch on a meal from McDonald's before preparing for their opening game with Fairmont Senior High School.
The Hawks are set to tip-off at 1 p.m. against their first-round opponent, Fairmont Senior.
Scott is playing in a historic state tournament -- the 100th get-together of the state's school boy athletes. Several special events have been scheduled as part of the century milestone, including recognition of all players who previously participated in the tourney.
If Scott wins today, they will move into the semi-final round tomorrow (Friday) to take on the winner of the Westside-Bridgeport contest. Tip-off Friday would be 11:15 a.m.
The Skyhawks come into the tournament seeded as the seventh team in Double A. Fairmont Senior is second. Bluefield earned the top seed in the West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission (SSAC) event.
The Class AA championship game is set for 2:30 p.m., Saturday.
