The Chambers Reunion was held on Aug. 11, 2013 at the old Dehue Chambers School on Rum Creek, Logan County. Robert and James Chambers came from England met a merchant Andrew Beren in NY who brought them home to Monroe County Robert joined the service 8/2/1777 during the Revolutionary War. Around 1780 Sgt. Chambers married Hannah Thorne adopted daughter of Andrew Beren. They had 8 children. His third son James in 1815 married Elizabeth Cole. Her Dad was an Indian Scout and they had lived in Logan County when she was a child. She wanted to move back so James took her to Logan County and they settled at the mouth of Rum Creek and had 12 children. Rev. James Chambers was one of the pioneer preachers in that area. He was Captain in the Confederate Army and was elected three times in the state Legislature. There is a long line of service men in the Chambers family even now. The first Reunion was held at the home place then owned by Lorenzo Dow Chambers. Many could not attend this year’s reunion. Grover and Bernice Chambers in Stollings are trying to keep up the Chambers Reunion for all every second Sunday in August on Rum Creek. For more information, contact Lewis Morrison 304-743-5451.
