With the Van High School football team enjoying its bye week, the Van Middle School squad took center stage. As such, the Bulldogs picked up an impressive win over visiting Hamlin.

Van had over 350 yards on the ground and another 130 in the air.

The Bulldogs struck early and remained focused in picking up the 33-12 decision, Thursday evening at Van’s Hershel Jarrell Field.

Taylor Jarrell hit Daniel Gibson on a 24-yard pass on the opening play of the game to set the tone for the evening. That was followed by a nine-yard run by D.J. Jarrell. Van’s Brady Grant then scored on the third play from scrimmage, rushing 38 yards to pay dirt.

Van’s Coach Ron Deal, praised the efforts and focus of his players. “This was a team effort. Our kids have worked very hard, many of them have been in the weight room since January. They are focused on our goal of having an opportunity to play for a championship. I couldn’t be more proud of each and every one of them. This was the first game that we were able to control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. Hamlin has a very good football team and their running backs ran hard. Our kids stepped up to the challenge and performed very well.”

The coach continued, “Our linemen Dakota Phillips, Chris Kennedy, Jonathan Deck, Austin Marcum, Tanner Bowling, Kory Williams and Brandon Moore along with tight ends D.J. Jarrell, Gavin Smith and Zack Green deserve the praise this week.”

Van will host Walton Thursday evening for their Homecoming. The game is set to kickoff at 6:30p.m.
