It was a successful homecoming evening the past Thursday for the Van Middle School football team, its fans and support staff.
First, the Bulldogs defeated visiting Walton, 38-8. Then, during halftime festivities, Brady Grant and Gracie Ritchie were named Mr. and Mrs. Bull Pup.
Grant is a captain for the middle school Bulldogs while Gracie is a cheerleader for the team.
In the game, the Bulldogs were once again led by the running duo of Drew Price and Grant, combining for 288 yards rushing and five touchdowns. Van amassed 538 yards of total offense and held a 32-0 halftime lead.
Bulldog quarterback Taylor Jarrell, went over the 100-yard mark for the third consecutive game, going 3-for-6 passing for 104 yards and a touchdown. Jarrell led Van to scoring drives on five of six first half possessions
Daniel Gibson scored Van’s final touchdown on a 64-yard run. Gibson picked up 82 yards on three carries. Wide Receiver Gavin Smith led the team with 52 yards receiving.
Van, now 4-0 on the season, will host Harts this Thursday evening for their final home game. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. and the 8th graders will be honored prior to the game.
