HAZARD—A Breathitt County woman has been charged with multiple counts of murder stemming from a motor vehicle crash this past summer that left three people dead.
The crash happened in the Engle community on July 3 when police say 30-year-old Billie J. Caudill, of Whick, was under the influence while operating a Ford Contour on Highway 15 near the Breathitt County line. She was traveling south when her vehicle crossed the centerline and collided with a Chevrolet S-10 occupied by 70-year-old William Belcher and his wife, Lillie.
The Belchers were pronounced dead at the scene, as was a passenger in Caudill's vehicle, identified as 33-year-old Danny Caudill. Billie Caudill was transported to the University of Kentucky medical center for treatment.
Caudill was indicted by the grand jury on Friday, and is facing three counts of murder along with one count each of DUI third offense and driving on a suspended or revoked license.
According to the indictment, Caudill was “acting under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to human life” when she was operating the vehicle while intoxicated.
Caudill's bond was set at $250,000 plus home incarceration if she is able to make bond. She is due in Perry Circuit Court for arraignment on Dec. 12.
