It has recently been brought to my attention that Boone County House of Delegates Representative Joshua Nelson has come under fire for being in on active duty while he also holds public office.
Joshua Nelson took an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic…..when he took that oath he gave up his rights to pick and choose where he goes and when he must serve.
Due to Joshua’s intelligence, dedication to his fellow airmen and tremendous work ethic the state of West Virginia decided to select him for Officer Candidate School.
When they decided to do so it was THEY, who provided him with a date to attend the course.
Fast forward one year and once again, the state of West Virginia has saw fit in the competence of Joshua Nelson to entrust in him the duties and responsibilities to assume command of multi million dollar aircrafts that also will be responsible for supporting troops on the ground and carrying out countless missions that will never be spoken of with citizens that do not hold credentials lower than Top Secret.
A few months ago, a bill went forward to give people like Joshua the ability to cast their votes from remote locations to support those who wear this nation’s uniform AND serve as representatives of their hometowns. Are not those who exercise the values of Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity and Personal Courage the ones we WANT speaking up for the people?
Here we have a young man who is in harms way during training to become a tool that can be used to protect this nation at a moments notice if and when the call should come. I find it sad that we have people who would question his dedication to his district and his loyalty to this nation.
We need MORE people out there who have stood up and answered this nation’s call to arms! We have far too many that claim to support the troops, but only when it best suits them. This is one of those times.
Either stand behind Joshua in support or let it be known that you question the blanket of freedom that men like myself and Joshua Nelson have provided.
