JEFFREY — A fight was reported in the early morning hours Wednesday, Feb. 22, and when police arrived on the scene they found a man stabbed.

The stabbing victim, Roy Gillam III, of Jeffrey, was taken to a local hospital where he later died. The incident occurred near the Jeffrey-Spencer Grade School.

Now, a man from North Carolina is facing a murder charge.

Brian King, age 38, was taken into custody by police, according to Boone County Chief Deputy Chad Barker.

Barker said a fight was reported to 911 about 2:30 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 22, along Hewett Creek Road in Jeffrey.

When Boone County Sheriff's Deputies arrived on scene they found the victim in the road. King was still on scene when deputies arrived, Barker added.

King was taken into custody without incident. There were no reports or information given on if King was injured in the alleged fight.

Deputies say King will be charged with murder. He's from Ashboro, North Carolina.

King was arraigned on the murder charge about 8:30 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 22.

No additional details about the alleged incident were released. Deputies are still on scene investigating the case.

Does anyone ever have his or her articles reviewed for errors before publishing for this paper? You tell us the name of the victim in the second paragraph, but then you tell us the name of the victim isn't being released in the 7th.
