Scott High golf tryouts
All players wanting to participate for the Scott High School golf team are to report to Riverview Country Club on Aug. 3, 2015, at 8:30 a.m.
All players must have a physical to tryout. Golf coach is Jim Bob Brown.
Food Handlers Classes
The Food Handlers Classes will be held at the Public Health Building located near Danville, just off the Lick Creek Road.
Dates and times are as follows: Monday, August 10, 2015, at 2 and 6 p.m.
Please note that under State Law any person(s) that is involved in the preparation or service of food for public consu.mption is required to attend a certified food service training course. The card will be a state wide card and a fee of $10 is required.
The course will be conducted by Sandra Giles, Boone County Sanitarian.
Appalachian Council Head Start/Pre-K
The Appalachian Council Head Start is now accepting applications for the 2015-2016 school year. Children must be 3 or 4 by Sept. 1, 2015.
Services are available for children with disabilities or special needs. There is no fee required for entrance into Head Start.
Information needed to apply: Verification of income for a 12 month period, birth certificate from vital statistics, and an immunization record.
Head Start/Pre-K Locations: Brookview Elementary, Danville Head Start, Nellis Elementary, Prenter Head Start, Racine Head Start, Ramage Elementary, Wharton Elementary and Whitesville Elementary.

Senior Famers Market vouchers
The Boone County Community Organization located at 347 Kenmore Drive, Lick Creek Road in Danville is currently giving out the Senior Farmers Market Vegetable and Fruit Vouchers to the Senior Citizens of Boone County.
Vouchers will be given daily from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 3 p.m., until the supply is gone. Vouchers will be given to Boone County Seniors 60 and over and only one (l) per household.

Boone County Fair
It is that time of year for the 82nd Boone County Fair on August 6, 7 and 8 at Lick Creek Field in Danville.
Also, August 2, there will be a car show from 1 to 4 p.m., along with wrestling starting at 2 p.m., which will be held at Lick Creek Field.
The fair is still accepting vendor applications, which must be turned in by July 24. If you would like to sell crafts, food, jewelry, or informational booth.
You can also pre-register for the Lip Sync Battle by contacting Gini Nelson 304-837-3894 for additional information for both.
There will be entertainment nightly, food vendors set up by the gates and vendors selling their goods on the field. In the craft building there will be beautiful quilts, photography, paintings and more to be judged, see and have fun.

Roberts Hager Lovejoy reunion
The Roberts Hager Lovejoy reunion is scheduled for Aug. 9, 2015, at the Mud River Dam, Shelter #2.
There will be singing and preaching. Bring a covered dish.

The annual Dillon family reunion will be on Saturday, Aug. 8, at the Wharton-Barrett Community Center at Wharton.

Fall master gardener’s class
A fall master gardener’s class is scheduled at the old “Foster Grade School” at 455 Foster Road, Foster, WV 25081, starting Monday, Sept. 14, 2015.

Early bird registration deadline is Monday, Aug. 17, 2015.
The cost is $75 total, inclusive of Master Gardener Manual if registered by Aug. 17, 2015. After that date the cost is $100.
Participants will learn various aspects of gardening, a bit about plant biology, pest management, best practices, plant propagation, landscaping, and much, much, more!
This is a ten week course. Classes are offered once a week for three hours on various topics like Botany, Soils and Fertilizer, and Trees and Fruits, among others. You must attend at least seven of the ten classes. At the end of the class there is a test covering the material presented. Upon passage you become a Certified Master Gardener. The first year you must complete 30 hours of volunteer work. After that, there is a requirement of 6 hours of volunteer work and six hours of continuing education.
Benefits of taking the class include lots of practical information, you become a member of the Boone County Master Gardener’s Club, many friendships, and lots of fun.

‘The Addams Family’ musical
It’s not every day you get to play with the likes of torture chairs, giant spiders, dead trees and dismembered body parts, unless you are the cast of The Aracoma Story’s musical “The Addams Family”.
The Aracoma Story will present the show, which ran on Broadway and followed with a highly successful national tour, starting on Tuesday, July 29 through Aug. 8 (Tuesday through Saturday both weeks).
The show starts at 8:30 p.m. and is perfect for the whole family.
Corridor G Bee meeting
The Corridor G Bee meeting is scheduled for Aug. 4, 2015, starting at 6 p.m. at Chapmanville Middle School.
Biscuits will be provided. Bring a sample of honey to sample
and test humidity.
