West Virginia Coal Festival begins June 16

MADISON — The Board of the West Virginia Coal Festival has added several new and exciting attractions for 2015.

“We want to offer something for everyone,” said Joy Underwood, President.

This year the WV Coal festival will be hosting a Pet Contest, June 20th in front of the Main Stage at 3:30 p.m.

“Come see the prettiest, ugliest and the owner/pet look alike contestants,” Underwood added.

New Parade route will be starting at the Madison Funeral Home with participants stopping in front of Courthouse to perform. The Parade will continue down the Veterans Memorial By-Pass and end back at the Funeral Home. Line Up is at 1:00 p.m. with parade beginning at 2 p.m.

The WV Coal festival is inviting all Coal Miners to march in remembrance of the Upper Big Branch Disaster which took place 5 years ago. The “Fallen Miners” have been named the Parade Marshals for 2015.

New vendors from all over the country to attend this festival.

This year the WV Coal Festival has named Sylvia Meadows as the first annual Boone County Belle. She will be crowned at the Opening Ceremonies Tuesday, June 16, at 6 p.m. in front of the Courthouse.

On Saturday, June 20, coming with the Marshal Lowry Band, Owen Schmitt and other WVU former and current football players will be in attendance. Come out to purchase tickets for a chance to win autographed memorabilia.
