LOGAN, W.Va. — The ARTS has announced that they are gearing up for their 2016 season beginning with auditions for their upcoming production of “9 to 5 the Musical” with music and lyrics by country legend Dolly Parton.
They will also be auditioning for “Darn Tootin’ Country Western Preshow,” which will showcase children from the area performing some “oldie but goodie” country favorites. Both shows will be directed by the Danny Ray, director of Forensics and coach for the award-winning Thundering Word Speech and Debate Team at Marshall University in Huntington, W.Va.
“9 to 5 the Musical” is based on the seminal 1980 hit movie starring Dolly Parton, Dabney Coleman, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin. This hilarious story of friendship and revenge in the rolodex era is outrageous, thought-provoking, and even a little romantic.
Pushed to the boiling point, three female co-workers concoct a plan to get even with the sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot they call their boss. In a hilarious turn of events, Violet, Judy and Doralee live out their wildest fantasy — giving their boss the boot. While Hart remains “otherwise engaged,” the women give their workplace a dream makeover, taking control of the company that had always kept them down.
This high-energy show is ideal for a large, mostly female cast, but also has opportunities for talented male actors.
No prior theatre experience necessary to audition, but is always welcome. The Arts also needs volunteers to work backstage and in the lobby.
Auditions and callbacks will be held at the First Presbyterian Church at 622 Stratton St. in Logan.
