MADISON, W.Va — The Madison Rotary met Thursday, September 15 at the Madison United Methodist Church at noon for their weekly luncheon. Trish Price the rotary secretary had a guest speaker for this meeting.
Jennifer Griffith, Chapter President of Read Aloud WV Boone County came to discuss the Read Aloud Program at the meeting.
Griffith said, “It is about our kids.”
According to Griffith, anyone can become a volunteer.
She said, they have to be trained and be approved by the board. The training takes approximately an hour and helps potential volunteers pick appropriate books for specific age groups.
Griffith said, “All Boone County Elementary schools have this program.”
If you or someone you know would be interested in volunteering there are two upcoming training programs for Read Aloud WV – Boone County. The training will be held on Monday, October 3 at 5:30 pm in the Sherman Elementary Library and Oct 24 at 5:30 pm in the Madison Civic Center.
Griffith said, “We not only bring volunteers in the classroom, but we give books to the classroom. “
Griffith has started a Storytime Live on the Read Aloud WV – Boone County Facebook page. Parents and their children can watch and connect while she reads the story.
Parents are able to comment in real time that their son or daughter is watching. The Storytime Live will then be able to be viewed by Facebook viewers at a later date if their child wants to hear the story again.
Her Storytime Live took place all during the summer and will be starting back up this fall on Monday’s at 7pm.
