Ashford shooting results in two deaths

Staff Report

ASHFORD, W.Va – Deputies with the Boone County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene of a possible murder Friday night around midnight.

The victim Edward Crose, 46 of Ashford was found dead in his home from apparent gunshot wounds.

Deputies were seeking to speak with the victim’s roommate Shane Adkins, 25, in relation to the murder.

During the course of the investigation it was determined Adkins had possession of the victim’s vehicle and was attempting to evade law enforcement. Boone County Deputies were able to work with the Wood County Sheriff’s Office and intercept Adkins before he left West Virginia.

Adkins led the Wood County Sheriff’s Office on a pursuit southbound on Interstate 77. The pursuit continued south into and through Jackson County eventually entering Kanawha County.

Adkins fired several rounds at officers during this portion of the pursuit from the moving vehicle. Once in Kanawha County, officers were able to utilize spike strips to disable the vehicle and end the pursuit.

Within moments of the pursuit ending, Adkins took his own life with a single gunshot.

The Boone County Sheriff’s department feel confident Mr. Adkins is the one responsible for the murder of Edward Crose and there is no further danger to the public at this time. However, the investigation will continue until it is complete.
