LOGAN, W.Va. — The Christmas season is here. Decorations are going up, hearts are growing cheerful and minds are thinking thoughts of charity and love.
Piety and brotherhood are spreading throughout the coalfields.
More evidence of the swelling Christmas spirit can be found in Southern Coalition for the ARTS’ upcoming production of “Smoke on the Mountain: Sanders Family Christmas.”
The play will be staged beginning Friday December 3 at the Coalfield Jamboree Theater in downtown Logan.
“Smoke on the Mountain: Sanders Family Christmas” is a sequel to the bluegrass and gospel infused musical “Smoke on the Mountain” which the ARTS has previously brought to life on stage.
“The ARTS is excited to bring this production of “Smoke on the Mountain: Sanders Family Christmas” to the Coalfield Jamboree stage this holiday season. We would like to invite everyone to join Pastor Mervin Oglethorpe and the rest of the Sanders Family as they send Dennis off with hilarious and touching stories and 25 of our favorite southern gospel Christmas songs,” production manager for the ARTS, Leah Clay explained
The show features a host of Christmas and gospel classics including, “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, O Come All Ye Faithful, It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas, Away In a Manger, Silent Night, Silver Bells, O Holy Night and Hark the Herald Angel Sing.”
Show times will be December 2 at 7 p.m., December 3 at 7 p.m. and December 4 will bring two chances to see the show at 3 and 7 p.m.
Rachel Noe Maynard, artistic director for the ARTS noted, ”It has been an absolute joy to direct and be a part of this cast. I have never laughed so hard in a rehearsal process or felt so close to a cast. We may not all be an actual family, but we are a family — through and through. Our first rehearsal felt just like coming home for the holidays. Please make it a priority to see this show. It will warm your heart and make you laugh until your sides hurt. It will leave you with a feeling of hope and happiness and holiday spirit. Our communities need the arts and supporting them with ticket sales is such a huge part of how The ARTS can bring quality, family entertainment to our area every year. Plus, you’ll just have a great time!”
