A question come to my mind right now, “What else is Satan doing? “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary in the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Peter 5:8). Peter was one who knew the prowling of Satan. Several times Jesus warned Peter that Satan was after him but he failed to heed the warning. I could say that many Christians have ‘gone to sleep” and that open the way for Satan to work. ”But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way. The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels” (Matthew 13:25, 39). Satan’s seed (children of the devil”). These seed opposed Paul when he first started his missionary work and all through the rest of his life. Satan opposed Paul as he opposes us today with a false Gospel, false minister.
Satan is called an “adversary,” which means “one who accuses you at court.” The word “devil” means “a slanderer.“ Satan uses the lips of unsaved people to falsely accuse us. “Having a good conscience: that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.” “Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you” (1 Peter 2:16, 44).
This I do know that I have an advocate in heaven. That Advocate is no other than Jesus Christ Himself. When Satan accuses us, Jesus steps between the Father and Satan and pleads our case. “And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ; for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night” (Revelation 12:10). We are sinners, but we are covered by the Blood. Not only are we covered by the Blood, but God has put a hedge around us. That hedge is none other than the blood of the Lamb (Jesus).
Remember when the God of death anger smote the first-born in the land of Egypt, they didn’t have the blood. The first-born of Israel was safe. The difference laid in the blood of the lamb that was put upon the doorpost. Every home that had the blood was protected by the blood of that lamb. Where the blood was applied, the death angel could not touch within.
We Christians have a hedge around us and that hedge is the Blood of the Lamb (Jesus) and old Satan can’t get to us because of that blood.
So, we see that Job had a hedge around him and Satan couldn’t get to him. So, God told Satan in Job 1:12, “And the Lord said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went from the presence of the Lord.”
Satan left to attack Job’s possessions. As one reads, the first thing to go was his cattle, then fire from heaven came down and burnt up the sleep and the servants. While the servant were talking, another servant came and told Job that the Chaldeans took all his camels away and killed all of the servants that was watching over them. But, the worst was yet to come. As they were talking, another servant came and told Job that a great wind came and smote the house that his seven sons and three daughters were in and killed them.
Now if this was us, we would look at God and say “Lord where are you Lord! Why does your children suffer and the wicked prosper?” But look what Job said; Naked I came out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither; the Lord gave, and the lord hath taken away: blessed the name of the Lord. In all of this Job sinned not, nor changed God foolishly (Job 1:21-22).
Let me say this, “God believed in Job so much that He would even challenge Satan to shake the faith of this man. In examining Job life and God’s confidence in him, let us each of us also consider our character, and let us think about it, does God believe in you?”
