MADISON – The West Virginia Coal Festival has announced that the featured speaker for the opening night ceremonies starting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17, 2014, will be the Senior Vice President of the West Virginia Coal Association Chris Hamilton.
Hamilton has worked in the coal mining industry his entire professional career. He has worked as an underground miner and mine foreman. He has operated a mine training center and his own mine safety consulting business.
He served as a deputy director of the West Virginia Department of Mines.
For the past 25 years, Hamilton has worked for the West Virginia Coal Association, the state’s lead trade association representing the mining industry. He serves as senior vice president, responsible for legislative, regulatory and operational matters impacting the coal industry.
Additionally, Hamilton serves on the State Board of Coal Mine Health & Safety, the West Virginia Board of Mine Training and Education, and serves as co-chairman of the West Virginia Coal Forum.
He received his undergraduate degree, as well as two Master’s degrees, from West Virginia University.
Hamilton is a native of Wheeling, West Virginia, and has called Charleston his home for many years.
