CHARLESTON – Visitors to e-WV are encouraged to vote on the question “Should West Virginia cities be allowed to regulate firearms within their boundaries?”

The West Virginia Encyclopedia recently posted the new opinion poll question at www.wvencyclopedia.org

“The purpose of our e-WV: West Virginia Encyclopedia poll is to determine how West Virginians feel about vital issues of the day,” says e-WV publisher Ken Sullivan. “While this is a nonscientific sampling based on voluntary response, we believe it is indicative of public sentiment given the size of the majority and the number of people taking the time to respond.” Sullivan added that the Encyclopedia doesn’t take a position on the issues.

e-WV, West Virginia’s online state encyclopedia, is operated by the West Virginia Humanities Council. It has conducted previous polls on the use of tolls to facilitate highway construction, the placement of wind turbines on Mountain State ridge tops, legislative redistricting, and the legalization of marijuana.

e-WV: The West Virginia Encyclopedia is an interactive website showcasing West Virginia’s history, culture, and people. It is enhanced with audio and video, hundreds of illustrations, maps, time lines, and other features. In keeping with the Humanities Council’s mission of service, the digital resource is free of charge and available to anyone with an Internet connection.

The online encyclopedia is a product of the West Virginia Encyclopedia project that has been under way at the Humanities Council for more than a decade. The project is best known for its one-volume West Virginia Encyclopedia, which became a regional bestseller after its publication on June 20, 2006.
