VAN — The Van Bulldogs evened their season record at 3-3 as they took Boone County’s Class A championship Friday with a 27-0 win over Sherman.

“We just didn’t play up to our capabilities across the board. This, like all defeats we take as a team. I give Van credit for playing well on Friday,” said Sherman coach J.D. Fairchild.

In the game played at Van, the Bulldogs got off to a 7-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and held a strong 21-0 margin at the half. The only scoring in the second half came on a Van touchdown.

Van quarterback Brandon Elswick eclipsed the 1,000-yard rushing mark for the season during the game. He ran 13 times for 78 yards on the evening.

Elswick also completed 15-of-19 passes for 283 yards and four touchdowns.

Justin Lambert caught nine passes for 153 yards and three of the Van scores.

Corey Agosti again led the defense with 17 tackles, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. In addition, he had two receptions for 80 yards, including a 65-yard touchdown. Agosti now has 90 tackles on the season.

It was a big win for Van with four games remaining in the season. The Dogs host Tug Valley this Friday at 7:30 p.m. The final three games are on the road: at Clay-Battelle, South Gallia (Ohio) and at Man.
