SETH - The Sherman High School baseball team has suffered through some weather related cancelations, like most prep spring sports teams in 2014. Mother nature did allow Coach Jeremiah Pettry’s squad to get in a game with Class AAA Lincoln County on March 24.

The Tide (1-1) rode the pitching arm of Aaron Lowe to snag 4-3 victory in extra innings over the Panthers.

Lowe went four innings while fanning seven batters in earning to win. The 6-foot 160-pound junior was hitting his spots and staying ahead in the count, forcing Lincoln County hitters to put the ball in play where the Tide defense could back up their man on the hill. John Hunter hurled four innings and struck out six hitters for the maroon and gold boys of summer.

The Tide stole 10 bases in the contest highlighted by Jacob Barnett’s four. Sherman kept the pressure on the base paths and tortured Panther pitchers with large leads and decisive base running.

“It has been tough getting games in this spring. We had to cancel a double header last Saturday with Ravenswood. It was good to get that first win of the season,” said Coach Pettry.

Hunter led the tide at the plate while going 3-for-4 with a single, double and triple capped with a stolen base. The Class A All Stater was a four-bagger away from hitting for the cycle. Blake Brewer had two hits and an RBI for Sherman, hitting the ball hard with each at-bat.

SHERMAN HITTING - Tyler Stewart went 1-for-4 with a SB, Aaron Lowe had a double and an RBI, Jacob Barnett was 1-for-3 with four SB, Bailey Kirk was 1-for-4, Cody Hartsell with an RBI and a SB and Trenton Sheppard was 1-for-4 with a SB.
