MADISON – Everett Henry Adkins, 25, of Comfort, was sentenced to prison last week for his role in a series of copper and telephone line thefts occurring in 2010. Adkins was indicted by prosecutors after the State Police implicated him in numerous phone line and copper thefts in the Big Coal area of Boone County during the summer of 2010. Adkins was later convicted of three counts of Grand Larceny, one count of Breaking and Entering and one count of Attempted Grand Larceny. Following his conviction, Adkins was placed on an alternative sentence. Last week, standing before Judge William S. Thompson, Adkins admitted to violating the terms and conditions of his release. Following his admission, Judge Thompson sentenced Adkins to the state prison for up to 10 years for Grand Larceny, 10 years for Breaking and Entering and 3 years for Attempted Grand Larceny.

If these younger people would get up off their butt and get a job, grab a lawn mower or a weed eater, they may not be so hard pressed for money. Get it honestly like the rest of us. I teach my kids that hard work pays off and they will appreciate their money more. Stealing copper affects others also when the power is affected. The older couple down the road that relies on medical devices that require the use of power. What a shame. Tough love...or prison is just what these people need.
