BREAKING NEWS: Rt. 17 near Washington Heights closed to traffic

The Boone County Sheriff’s Department is urging motorists to avoid Rt. 17 area, near Washington Heights, for the next few hours. The road is closed to traffic after a tractor trailer overturned carrying a load of logs. The road had been open to one-lane traffic while a utility pole was being installed. According to witnesses at the scene, the tractor trailer went into the ditch before overturning. The driver was not injured and there were no other vehicles involved in the crash. The name of the driver and logging company has not been released, according to the Sheriff’s Department, as the accident remains under investigation.
