Hill Chiropractic Center celebrates 10th anniversary

MADISON – Cliff Hill says there is no better place to be a chiropractic doctor than southern West Virginia.

“I work mostly with coal miners and athletes,” he said. “You couldn’t serve any better people than here in Boone and Logan counties.”

Hill, 35, has offices in downtown Madison and in Logan. He celebrated his 10th anniversary serving his community with full-service chiropractic medicine services.

“It’s really gone by fast though,” he said. “In a lot of ways, it seems like my whole life I’ve been here, but in a lot of ways it seems like just yesterday.”

Hill is a local man who grew up in Morrisvale. He graduated from Scott High School.

“My first job was working as a bag boy at the IGA Supermarket in Woodville,” he said. “I was 15-years-old, and working there taught me a lot of valuable lessons, including the fact that you could earn a lot more working than you could sitting around at home.”

Hill says he was planning a career as a physician when a rugby injury gave his future a twist.

“I was playing for Marshall University, and my coach sent me to a chiropractor,” he explained. “I was intrigued because the chiropractic work allowed me to get back to normal quickly, and I didn’t have to take medicine.”

In his junior year in college, Hill made the decision to pursue a chiropractic career. After he graduated from Marshall, he attended and graduated from the Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa.

Hill is involved in his community, including volunteer work. He speaks at mine workers’ gatherings about how to eliminate on-the-job injuries. He also helped establish the Morrisvale Community Center in Boone County and restored a 40,000-square-foot building constructed in 1919 that is now home to the Southern West Virginia Community & Technical College coal mining safety and technology program.

Hill says he has had a second career restoring old buildings and other projects with Hill Realty.

“We have restored many old buildings and now only work on family-related projects,” he said.

Hill says his parents, Danny and Robin Hill of Morrisvale, have been his biggest supporters.

“My mom has been with me the entire time and worked with me since day one,” he said.

Hill knew the southern coalfields would make the perfect fit for his chiropractic services.

“For me, I’m better suited to a smaller community, where you can get more involved,” he said. “I am from this area and know these people and they know me.”

Treating coal miners, Hill says he sees some of the worst back conditions in the country.

“Coal mining is a job that is extremely tough and rough on a person’s back,” he said.

Hill says his practice includes a large number of coal miners and it’s extremely rewarding to help miners get back to work and back to a normal physical routine.

“It is very rewarding to help people that have come in unable to do hardly any physical activity get back to a more normal life, where they can go back to work or do other physical activities around their home.”

Hill also sees a lot of high school athletes.

“I have taken lots of additional training in dealing with sports injuries,” he said. “These types of injuries are very similar to those I see with coal miners.”

A lot of his patients are referred, but you don’t need a referral to get an appointment at the Hill Chiropractic Center.

“If you’re in pain, let us check you out and see if we can help,” he said.
