Local haunted trail full of twists and scares
by FRED PACE, EDITOR
JULIAN – There’s a new attraction coming to Water Ways theme park in Boone County, and it’s not all splashy fun. In fact, it’s full of fright! For the second year in a row, the Madison-Danville Jaycees will be sponsoring a “Haunted Trail of Horror” at the Julian attraction. “We’re known for our award-winning haunted house we did for years in Madison, but it’s time to switch things up with a haunted trail,” said Kris Richmond, president of the Madison-Danville Jaycees. “The scare quality and expertise is still there, just in an outdoor setting.” Winding walkways and slender trees create a spooky atmosphere for the trail, while guests are transported into another dimension. Creepy scenes navigate guests eventually leading into a blacked out maze for the ultimate thrill. “We plan to switch it up each night, so that if you visit the trail multiple times you won’t be able to pinpoint the scares,” Richmond said. “We want it to be different experience each time someone goes through.” Opening night is Friday, Oct. 19, and the trail will also operate on Oct. 20, 26, 27 and 30. The trail begins at 7 p.m., with the last group going through at 11 p.m., Richmond added. Admission is $5 per person, but guests may receive $1 off by bringing a new or gently used coat to donate. Richmond said the trail is not recommended for the faint of heart, children, pregnant women or anyone with serious health problems, including epilepsy or a heart condition. The Jaycees is an international nonprofit community organization and is dedicated to promoting volunteerism and leadership in young adults. All proceeds from the trail will be used by the Madison-Danville Jaycees to continue developing their mission, Richmond said.
