Cook called to serve as interim pastor at Madison Baptist Church
by FROM STAFF REPORTS

MADISON — Bill Cook has been called to serve as interim pastor at Madison Baptist Church.

As a member of Madison Baptist Church for over 15 years, Bill has taught the popular New Disciples Sunday School class for as many years, and has served on numerous boards and committees including chairperson of the Deacon Board.

Bill is a member of the Chancel Choir and sings with a men’s group, has participated in theatrical plays, assisted in teaching the youth, and teens instructor during Bible School

A lifelong resident of Madison, Bill is currently the director of campus operations at the Boone/Lincoln Campus of Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College.

Bill has been called upon many times to assist local churches with teaching and preaching God’s Word in the absence of a spiritual leader. Through the years he has been asked to assist grieving families in their time of loss, preaching and singing at over 30 funerals and celebrations of life.

Bill said he has enjoyed serving the Lord in song for over 30 years and has traveled to over 100 churches to proclaim God’s Word. For seven years he enjoyed an outreach ministry at Black Diamond Arbors, a retirement complex. He has been active in youth work and assisting “new converts” in their walk with Christ. During the ‘80s and ‘90s he served with longtime friend David Goldsberry in the group ‘Living Water.’ The two released a gospel recording, Free at Last, in 1984 and continue writing gospel songs and singing together whenever possible.

“I have been active in ministry since I received Christ as my personal Savior on December 17, 1978” Bill said. “It is my desire to lead sinners to the saving power of Jesus and to encourage Christians to live a life that will shine brightly for Jesus.”

Bill is also active in the local community, serving on several community boards. He is currently involved in ‘Mercy Revival’ (www.mercyrevival.com) a group of concerned Christians from over 20 local churches reaching out to bring churches together to pray in order to assist hurting families as they fight the war against drug abuse.

Bill and his wife Sheliah have been married for 37 years and they have one daughter, Crystal, who also resides in Madison. Sheliah is also a lifelong resident of Madison and has been employed at Boone Memorial Hospital for 25 years. She is a very active member in the ministries at Madison Baptist, serving in many areas.

“The Madison Baptist Church extends a welcoming invitation to everyone to come and fellowship as we serve our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ until He comes,” Bill said.

The Madison Baptist Church welcomes Bill Cook as their interim pastor and looks forward to a growing and successful future.
