Ron’s Ramblings

There’s no doubt the football season is just on the horizon since I attended a grid-o-rama with my six-year-old grandson, Jordan, the past weekend. Jordan, whose dad played for the runner-up state Class AA basketball team at Logan High a few years ago, was relatively excited before the scrimmage began. It is not necessary for me to propound my long-held theories about amateur athletics. The past Saturday’s scrimmages at Duval Field in Griffithsville attracted a nice-size...

Gregory’s Web

It could, after all, have been worse. For example, Federal District Court Judge Thomas Johnston could have ordered disgraced former Mingo County Circuit Court Judge Michael Thornsbury to spend the rest of his life in Hamlin. But the judge did not do that. Instead, he sentenced Thornsbury to 50 months in a federal facility. One of the locations the ex-judge apparently wanted considered was a minimum-security “camp” in Pensacola, Florida. Early this week, it seem...

For such a time as this

In order to walk in newness of life one must first have new life. Once there is new life, the individual must know from where and how to obtain the strength to walk in newness of life. Before one can walk in newness of life, he must be born again. Jesus declared plainly in John 3:7 “Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.” Upon hearing this, “Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be?” (John 3:9). Nicodemus, like many people today, ...

Fruit of the vine

We all have a past and we all have baggage. We also have a Savior who forgives our sins. This is proven in I John 1:9, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” With this being said I think that too many of us are held back by our past from fulfilling God’s plans for our future. We can accept God’s forgiveness but sometimes we simply cannot forgive ourselves.
