MADISON — Iron man football is a common enough term when a team’s numbers are down, but iron man basketball is not only unusual, but it is a tough thing to accomplish.

However, that is not so for the starting five for Scott High School. They play the whole game…period.

Coach Nick cable’s starters of Tanner Bell , Patrick Underwood, Andrew Day, Allen Johnson and Super Guard Nick Dolan are breaking the mold.

State AA Champion Poca High School Coach Osborne, came out Thursday night to scout the Skyhawks and he states, “In last three games, Westside, Sissonville and Wayne, these boys have won giving the opposing teams the main course menu — no side dishes. They play well. force you into their game and play as a family. Everyone should be envious.”

Coach Nick cable talked about the Wayne game and last two games. “The first quarter we were down by 1 point 13-12 and we came together in second quarter and went up at half 34-24. Wayne came out and cut the lead and even tied it up at one point. We clawed and pulled together and got the lead and we kept playing smart ball and extending it. Then we extended it quite a bit. The boys dedication to conditioning and putting games away at the end is starting to show. The Westside game was very physical it went into OT and Patrick Underwood tried the last shot with 1.5 seconds on the clock a 3 pointer that rolled around them rim and went out. If I had to do it 10 more times , I would let Patrick try that shot again and my money would be on him making it. He is a pure shooter. I trust him and that’s the end of it. The kids, especially Patrick Underwood and Tanner Bell are playing much smarter this year because of the limited subbing. They are not playing any less harder. Just smarter. Every year before, we were able to hack and throw our bodies around the floor. We have not stopped. We are just smarter about it.”

Point Guard Nick Dolan, quipped, “Well, I was asking for more playing time last few years… I got it.”

Beating Wayne 65-46 put Scott at 2-1 on their young season.

Game stats were Patrick Underwood 22pts 10 rebounds. Tanner Bell 15 pts 10 rebounds. Allen Johnson 6 points. Nick Dolan 12 points 10 rebounds. Andrew Day 7 points 1 rebound

Coach Cable closes his remarks by stating, We are now 2-1. 2-0 in cardinal conference. We could easily be 3-0

We have two seniors Tanner Bell and Patrick Underwood averaging a double double.

The games are intense and the fan base is loyal. If you have 5$ to spend on a Scott game night, you will get your money’s worth.
