MADISON — Mark it down. If you were at Madison Civic center watching Chapmanville and Madison Middle Play each other in the Holiday tournament show down, you may have witnessed the best basketball game in 10 years.

In a Black Diamond conference rival game the wild, rabid and energetic fan base from both sides cheered exceptional athletes.

A seasoned referee crew of John Raybee and Mark Phillips keeping a tight game, under control.

30 year seasoned Referee Mark Phillips stated, I have refereed 100’s of basketball games over the years. That may have been the best game I have been a part of, kids were better than most High school teams I do.

MMS came out and led 6-0. Cville tied it up. MMS pulled ahead with some great break away lays ups and steals. MMS were leading by as many as 10 points in 3rd Quarter ,then Chapmanville scrapped their way back into the game. MMS went up by 13 with about 3:42 left in the game.

One of the key defensive matchups was Jagger Bell of MMS On middle school phenom, Nate White from Chapmaville. Bell fouled out deep in third quarter but held Chapmanville’s White to 0 points. He also took 3 hard charges that set the tone for our hard work ethic to get the job done.

Hainer was put into to replace Bell and White still only scored 6, two of which were foul shots.

Says Head Coach Chester Mitchell, “We tried to put pressure on their outstanding shooters, Chapmanville’s #22, Reed Dingess was making NBA passes and shots and pulled them back in the game. He pulled off a phenomenal 4th quarter and Cville took the lead with 12 seconds to go. Jagger fouled out with 38 sec in third, Joey Sipple fouled out as well and somehow our leaders, Andrew Epling, Jon Jon Hamilton and Caleb Dingess led us to victory. Mitchell Hainer came off the bench and gave us some huge minutes of play as well. Hats off to Jody Harless, his assistants and his Chapmanville Tigers. Great effort.”

Its war and fun every time we play them. MMS plays them again Jan 11@ MMS at 7:30 p.m.

Then Cville boys chipped away at the lead until it was 50-50 with 7 seconds left. Caleb Dingess was fouled and made 1-2 to put MMS up 51-50 then Tigers made costly in bounds turnover and Caleb Dingess intercepted the pass and made pressure filled layup with time expiring to seal the deal 53-50.

Teams invited to tournament in addition to MMS boys and girls, there are Duval boys and girls, Burch Boys Valley girls, Chapmanville Boys, Man JV Burch JV , Man Boys, MMS girls and Boys JV, Williamson boys and Logan Boys. These games were played Dec 21, 22 and 23.

If you are in town next Christmas visiting and lacking for entertainment, look no further.
