SETH, W.Va. — It was a cool autumn night as the Sherman Tide varsity football team took to the field for their Homecoming game Friday, Sept. 30 at 7:30 pm to play the Cardinals of Sheldon Clark, Kentucky.
The Tide defeated the Cardinals 49-8.
According to Head Coach J. D. Fairchild, he was not concerned with the condition of the field after the recent rains.
Fairchild said, “The field is in great shape.”
The bleachers were full of many generations of Sherman Tide football fans cheering on the team to another victory.
Senior Bailey Kirk completed three passes for a total of 60 yards in Friday night’s game.
The Tide rushed with a total of 411 yards on 49 carries. Senior Bailey Kirk led the team with 150 yards on 14 carries. Junior Ben Salmon had 9 carries with a total of 92 rushing yards and sophomore Tommy Harper had 7 carries for a total of 76 rushing yards.
Sherman junior Will Hensley had one reception for the night for a total of 30 yards. Junior Ben Salmon and sophomore Jt Hensley both carried the ball for 15 yards in Friday night’s game.
Willen Christian, Will Hensley, Ben Salmon, Tommy Harper, Bailey Kirk and J. T. Hensley all scored touchdowns for the Tide in their victory against the Sheldon Clark Cardinals, who are from Martin County, Ky.
The strong defense helped the Tide with a total of 92 tackles. Junior Tristan Dunfee and sophomore Hensley led the Tide defense with them both having 4 solo tackles.
Sherman ended the night with a total of 471 passing and rushing yards on offense.
Sherman is now 5–1 this season.
The Tide will meet up against a county rival, the Van Bulldogs, in a non-conference game Friday, Oct. 7. Sherman and Van are both Boone County Schools so it is sure to be an exciting game. Kickoff will be 7:30 p.m.
