WHEELING – Sophomore Bray Price gained 239 yards and scored four times on just five carries as No. 6 Wheeling Central (9-1) jumped to a 26-0 halftime lead and went on to rout No. 11 Sherman (8-3) at Bishop Schmitt Field on the campus of Wheeling Jesuit University.
Price scored on runs of 61, 80, 45 and 40 yards for the Maroon Knights, who rolled up a 545-133 advantage in total yards. Fullback Dawson Wear added 105 yards on eight carries.
Senior quarterback Isaac Rine eclipsed the 1,000-yard passing mark for the season, completing 10 of 15 for 132 and a pair of scores — 25 yards to Brother Jackson, who also scored a rushing TD, and 36 yards to John Burkhalter.
The Tide avoided a shutout with a 36-yard touchdown pass from Bailey Kirk to JT Hensley in the fourth quarter.
This was the second meeting between the schools. Central also won the first encounter, 51-0, in a 2002 playoff encounter at Wheeling Island Stadium.
The Maroon Knights will be on the road next weekend at No. 3 and undefeated Fayetteville, which eliminated Van, 28-0.
