MADISON – The Scott Skyhawk baseball team is ready for the 2017 baseball season.

Head Coach Brett Kuhn said, “After defeating Chapmanville in 2016 for the sectional title, the Skyhawks are expecting big things again in 2017.”

“There is a good mix of returning talent to add with incoming freshman to give Scott confidence the team will play well against a demanding schedule,” said Kuhn.

Seniors Easton Cook and Nathan Ramsey are returning starters from last year.

According to Kuhn both Cook and Ramsey will help provide leadership for this young squad.

Cook will be playing first base and Ramsey playing leftfield. Both Cook and Ramsey will be pitching this season.

Senior Zion Bourne will also be an important part of the pitching staff this year. Austin Swann is a first year senior and will be playing in the outfield.

Kuhn has three juniors playing on the 2017 team. They are Zack Craddock, Wes Nelson, and Mikel Hager.

Zack Craddock and Wes Nelson will be playing in the outfield. Kuhn said, they will “… provide speed and good defense.”

Mikel Hager will be seeing time behind the plate as well as playing in the outfield this year.

Sophomores for the 2017 team are Aaron Adkins, Peyton Brown, Nathan Kuhn, Carter Lyles, Gavin Dunlap, Jonathan Lester, Hunter Epling, and Isaac Miller

Gavin Dunlap is a first year player for the Scott Skyhawks and will be playing in the outfield.

According to Kuhn, Nathan Kuhn received Honorable Mention All-State last year. He will be playing shortstop, pitch and catch for the Skyhawks.

The freshman playing for the Scott Skyhawks 2017 baseball team are Dakota Bowman, Aaron Epling, Bailey Adkins, Trey Johnson, Jagger Castle, and Corey Cooper

Kuhn said, “This is a very hard working group and I am looking forward to an exciting season.”

“The WVSSAC has introduced a pitch count for 2017, so there will be an adjustment period for coaches and players,” said Kuhn.

“The Cardinal Conference has expanded and is a demanding conference for AA teams to navigate,” said Kuhn. “If you can be successful in the Cardinal Conference, you can be a contender for the AA State title.”

Scott started the year with a win over 2016 AAA runner-up Nitro on Saturday, March 18 at Nitro.
