Chapmanville scored five runs in the top of the second to take a 5-0 lead and never looked back. The Tigers added one in the fourth and two more in the fifth to make it an 8-0 ballgame.
Scott scored two in the last half of the sixth to cut it to 8-2. Chapmanville added another in the top of the seventh before the Skyhawks pushed three across in the last half of the seventh. Scott junior pitcher Drew Runyan pitched for two innings, with Corey Prince pitching three while striking out four. Tyler Thompson pitched the final two innings for the Skyhawks.
Runyan hit a homerun late in the ballgame and had two RBI while going 1-for-3. Also scoring a homerun for the Skyhawks was Eric Gibson who went 1-for-2 with David Howard connecting on a double.
Caleb Toparis pitched the complete game win for the Tigers. He went seven innings and allowed five runs (three earned) and seven hits to go along with his eight strikeouts, one walk and two hit batsmen. All-state shortstop Josh Mahaffey led Chapmanville’s 13-hit attack as he was 3-for-5 at the plate with two doubles and three RBI. Chris Miller was 3-for-4 with an RBI while Adam Dingess went 2-for-2 with a double. Hunter Podunavac was 2-for-5 with an RBI. Zak Martin added an RBI double. Matt Collins and Jared Holtzclaw each had a single.
