Boone Memorial Hospital (BMH) welcomes back a well-respected physician, Dr. Dallas B. Martin, D.O.

Martin, who worked at BMH in the early 1990s is now seeing patients in Dr. Walter Dial's former office (Boone Memorial Family Health), which is located in the clinic positioned to the right of the main BMH hospital building.

"A wonderful doctor resigned, however, we are extremely thankful and honored to have Dr. Martin on staff,"BMH Administrator Tommy Mullins said. "He is such a great addition to our team and community."

Dr. Martin is Board Certified in Family Practice. He graduated from the WV School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg, WV in 1985.

"I honestly didn't start Medical School until I was 36," he said. "I was very sickly as a child and I knew I wanted to help people. I know first-hand what it's like to be sick. Sometimes life just changes direction and age shouldn't slow you down," Martin said.

"I worked in the Emergency Room for several years but I wanted to go back to clinical medicine. I like the patient care in a clinical setting. I feel I have more time to spend with my patients in a less fast paced environment," he said.

Dr. Martin worked in the ER at Montgomery General Hospital and Teays Valley/CAMC for a couple of years. He officially started at BMH on June 9.

"I really like this community. It's truly like family here. So many of my former colleagues and friends are still here and I like that. It's just a really friendly atmosphere at BMH," Martin said.

Martin has been married to his wife Ann for 24 years. He likes to spend his spare time with his family in Canaan Valley. "We built a home at Canaan and I like to spend time there working on it," he said.

He is also the proud owner of a Bernese Mountain Dog, Loki.

He and Ann have one daughter, Erin, 23 and a son, John, 20. Erin is studying Theatre/Drama at Marshall University and John is majoring in Engineering at West Virginia University.

"We really don't have a huge rivalry having one Marshall student and one WVU student in the house," he laughs.

To schedule an appointment with Dr. Martin, please call Boone Memorial Hospital Family Health at 307-6070. Hours of Operation are Monday through Thursday from

8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
