Manchin coming to Boone County
For two consecutive weeks, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) will travel around West Virginia on his “Building a Stronger America Together” tour to discuss some of the most pressing issues of our day and how leaders must work across party lines to solve them.
Thursday, August 23: Senator visits Boone County Courthouse and speaks with area residents. When: 12:30 p.m.; Where: Boone County Courthouse, 206 Court Street, Madison; and What: Senator will visit Boone County Courthouse and speak with area residents.
The decedents of the late Levi and Lora Cook Harvey will be on Sept. 16, 2012 beginning at 11:00a.m. with Pastor Benny Turner preaching. Dinner will be served. Boone County Adult Basic education
Boone County Adult Basic education will begin classes Aug. 23, 2012. We are accepting enrollment for the fall term and have openings for new and returning students. We provide GED preparation, college prep, basic refresher, resume, job skill building, etc… Classes are free. Open enrollment will be August 23rd and 24th. After that date new students may enroll on Mondays from 7:30 – 10:30. We will also be offering the Official Practice Test the every Friday beginning at 8:00am.
Class location: Adult Learning Center 333 1st St West Madison (beside Madison Middle School)
Classes are Monday – Friday 7:30 am - 2:30 p.m.
Accepting new students every Mondays from 7:30 a.m. – 10:30a.m.
Offering the Official Practice Test every Friday – students must arrive at 8 a.m. to test.
GED preparation courses
Boone County Adult Basic Education will be offering GED preparation courses for the fall 2012- 2013 school year. This is a 10 week preparation course designed to provide instruction in all five components of the GED test. Classes will begin Sept. 4, 2012 in two locations. Students must begin on Sept. 4 with the semester ending on Nov. 15, 2012. At the conclusion of the course students will be given the Official Practice Test. The preparation course is free. Class locations are as follows: Nellis Elementary School Tuesday &Thursday from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m.; and Whitesville Elementary School Tuesday & Thursday from 4:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

Fall Council Circle
Any child who would like to join 4-H is invited to come to Fall Council Circle. To find out if 4-H is for you. Please come out and join us for a evening of fun. Any child can join between the ages of 9-21 yrs. old or in 3rd grade. The evening will have fun events such as fishing, socializing, corn hole, signing, and a potluck dinner on Sept. 15, 2012, from 5 to 10 p.m., Big Ugly, WV, approximatley 1 mile from the Big Ugly Exit (follow signs). Van High School 50 year reunion Class of 1962 and Roger Osborne Coal Camp Reunion
Dear classmates and friends, we are having our 50th year class reunion on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, at the Park Avenue Restaurant, Danville, WV 25053, beginning at 6pm. Winter is here and there are people in our community who could use a nice warm coat. Between Sept. 4 and Nov. 5, there will be a box available for you to donate your gently-used coats. They will be going to BC Residents/Union Mission, which is in desperate need of coats. You can drop the coats off at the Town Of Danville Community Center! Please only donate clean, reusable coats! Boone Co. Chapter AARP meeting
Boone Co. The 2nd Annual Big Coal River Heritage Festival
The 2nd Annual Big Coal River Heritage Festival will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at John Slack Park, Racine, West Virginia. The festival will begin at 10 a.m. and last until 6 p.m. There will be crafters, food vendors, musicians, quilts on display, and a tour of the one room schoolhouse. The Boone County WIC office will once again be offering the Farmers Market Vouchers. These vouchers will be given out to those participants that are currently on WIC. The participant must be up-to-date on their appointments and must bring their WIC folder with them. Qualified WIC participants may come in to the WIC office from 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Tuesday, August 28. Smith, Dotson Reunion
The Smith, Dotson Reunion is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012, at shelter #2 at the Mud River Dam picnic area. TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) meets every Thursday at the Fountain of Life Worship Center, Rock Creek. The entrance is on the left side of the building. Weigh in is from 5 to 5:30 p.m. TOPS is a nonprofit Weight Loss support group. Membership is $28 a year which includes a monthly magazine. Games and incentives are used weekly for weight loss motivation. TOPS is open to men, women and children seven years or older.

The Lincoln County Fair/Fall Festival is looking for the following, for the Fair August 30, 31, September 1, and 2, 2012. Arts & crafts, and flea market people.
