The Madison Rotary Club was proud to welcome Korean War veterans Harvey Hill, right, and Frank Goff, center, to a recent meeting. Hill spent 16 months in Korea. Goff earned two bronze stars, a silver star, and the Purple Heart for his heroic service. Each spoke about some of their experiences in serving their country in a war that began on June 24, 1950 and ended July 27, 1953, between the Republic of Korea and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. The three-year war took 54,246 U. S. casualties and wounded 103,284 American soldiers, according to statistical information provided by Goff. A Korean War Veterans Memorial was completed and dedicated in Washington, DC, on July 27, 1995. An inscription on the memorial reads: “Our nation honors her sons and daughters who answered the call to defend a country they never knew and a people they never met.” Hill and Goff were introduced by Rotarian Larry Lyon, left, who is also a Korean War veteran and the author of a book on some of the action that took place during that conflict.—Submitted by Janet Yeager
