MADISON – During REV UP Madison’s 5th Annual Down Home Christmas celebration, Friends & Families For Coal stood outside the Coal Museum on Main Street in Madison selling lumps of coal and collecting donations to send a box full of lumps of coal to U.S. President Barack Obama.
The group included Linda Dials, Tammy Kennedy and Marty Cline and they said the Obama administration and the U.S. Department of Environmental Protection have attempted to use federal pollution regulations to shut down West Virginia’s coal industry.
“We want to send lumps of coal to the president for being a bad boy when it comes to coal mining,” Dials said. “He is destroying families, local coalfield towns economies and hurting children could go without Christmas because of all of the coal mining job layoffs.”
The group was also promoting the 1st annual “Race To Keep The Lights On” 5K run/walk sponsored by KTCLO and Citizens for Coal in Madison at Scott High School football field on Saturday, Dec. 15 beginning at 9 a.m., which is open to all ages. There will be special races for children.
