Madison Civic Center
The Madison Civic Center will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, for citizens to use to walk in this winter.
Rental Assistance Program
The Boone County Housing Authority will be changing the application process for Section 8 Rental assistance program. We will begin on Feb. 1, 2013, of maintaining a preference waiting list and a non-preference waiting list. We will have a separate waiting list with date and time for local residents of our jurisdiction of Boone and Lincoln counties. We will be accepting any comments you may have in writing at Boone County Housing Authority, 824 Lick Creek Road, Danville, WV 25053, by Jan. 18, 2013.
Ashford-Nellis-Ridgeview Neighborhood Watch
The next meeting for the Ashford-Nellis-Ridgeview Neighborhood Watch will be Dec. 18, at 6 p.m. at the Nellis Archives Building.
The Boone County Parks & Recreation Cheerleading Competition is set for Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013 at the Madison Civic Center. This event IS sanctioned by the WVSSAC. If interested in entering your squad, please contact the Parks & Rec. office at 304-369-6125.
Foster Neighborhood Crime Watch
Foster Neighborhood Crime Watch will have their meeting and Christmas Party on Thursday, December 20, at 7 p.m. There will be lots of goodies and door prizes, and also honored guests.
Master Gardener class
The Boone County Extension Master Gardeners are holding a 10-week Master Gardener certification class beginning Monday, January 28 at 6:00 PM at the Racine Community Center. The cost is $75, which includes the WVU Extension Master Gardener Manual. The Boone Co. Assn. Retired School Employees (BCARSE) will meet on Dec. 19 at Park Ave. Restuarant at 10 a.m. The program will be a celebration of the Christmas season. Dan and Jenny Light will present the musical program. All members plan to attend this time of food, fellowship and sharing of musical talent. Jeanine Castle will present the devotional.
Christmas For Kids
There will be a “Christmas For Kids” dinner program on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at the Orgas Community Center at 6 p.m. All are welcome to attend this event, as it feeds many needy families in our community. For more information, call Crickett Hill at 304-741-2522.
New soccer league
Two English guys, missing their sport are interested in starting an adult soccer league. This is going to be for fun and exercise, therefore previous experience is not a requirement. Madison VFW Post 5578 is building a Veteran’s Memorial to honor mothers of veterans and veterans. Purchase a brick for $50. Tops (Take off pounds sensibly) meets every Thursday at the Fountain of Life Worship Center, Rock Creek. The entrance is on the left side of the building. Weigh in is from 5 to 5:30 p.m. Tops is a nonprofit weight loss support group open to men, women and children seven years or older. There is a yearly membership fee. Games and incentives are used weekly to motivate weight loss.
New Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting
