KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A 16-year-old girl was killed in a crash between a lumber truck and a car along Route 119 near the Kanawha-Lincoln County line Tuesday night .
The accident was reported shortly before 9 p.m. just south of Sand Plant Road.
Kanawha County Sheriff's Deputies say a tractor trailer hauling lumber was traveling south on Route 119 when the driver, David McCarter, 58, of Wellston, Ohio, lost control and struck a concrete barrier on the Steven Wayne Smith Memorial Bridge.
The truck then crossed into the northbound lanes and overturned before hitting a Jetta.
Deputies say a passenger in the Jetta, Brittany N. Sowards, 16, of Sumerco, died at the scene.
The driver, Betty J. Sowards, 38, of Sumerco, was taken to CAMC General. As of 9 a.m. Wednesday, Betty was listed in critical condition in the ICU.
McCarter was also taken to the hospital. According to a spokesperson at CAMC, he has been treated and released.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
The northbound lanes of Route 119 were closed for several hours. As of 9 a.m. Tuesday, one northbound lane remains closed in the area of the accident.
