Ashford Nellis Neighborhood Watch Meeting


The Ashford Nellis Neighborhood Watch Meeting is scheduled for April 30, starting at 6 p.m., at the Nellis Church Archives.


Boone Madison Public Library notice


The Boone Madison Public Library Board of Directors meeting is scheduled for April 26, 2013, at 5:30 p.m. Meetings are open to the public.


ZUMBATHON CHAIRTY EVENT


The Madison-Danville Jaycees are having a Zumbathon on Saturday, April 27, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Madison Civic Center.


Advanced regsitration is $15 and includes a free t-shirt. Advanced registration ends April 13; after this date, registration increases to $20.


Other activites present include a 50/50 raffle, a Chinese Auction, and healthy lunches available for purchase.

Van High Class of ‘63


The Van High School Class of 1963 is having a meeting at Park Avenue Restaurant at 4 p.m. on Friday, April 26, 2013. Anyone interested in helping with the reunion is welcome to attend.


The Van High Alumni and Friends Committee have sent out letters for the upcoming reunion in the fall and we have received several letters back with undeliverable addresses.


If you have not received a letter and would like one or know someone that would, please contact a committee member and give us your address. We can’t get a letter to you without a correct address, we need your help. Thank you in advance.

BCTC HOSA/SILENT AUCTION


The Boone Career Center HOSA students will be conducting a fundraier to assist with the costs of their National Leadership Conference this summer in Nashville, Tn.


The BINGO/SILENT AUCTION will be held at the Racine Volunteer Fire Department on Friday, May 3 at 6 p.m. Concession and silent auction bidding will start at 5 p.m.


A few of the items that will be available for auction include a Greenbrier Classic Package, a Mrytle Beach package, a Pigeon Forge package, along with other itmes.


There will be a variety of BINGO prizes. BINGO will be 20 games for $20 and Special BINGO games will be $2.

Morrisvale Helping Hand


Morrisvale Helping Hand, Inc. would like to invite everyone to our first community meeting May, 6, 2013, at 6 p.m.


It will be held at the Morrisvale/Ryan community center. This will be our monthly meeting, as well as a public forum for all questions, concerns and for you, the public, to let us know what the needs are in your community, and how we can help.

Volunteers needed


Western Regional CASA reaches Kanawha, Lincoln, Boone, Putnam, Cabell, and Wayne Counties. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) is a non-profit organization that desires for every child in abuse/neglect proceedings to receive a permanent residence. Volunteers gather information and advocate on the behalf of the children within a case.


Right now, Boone County is looking for volunteers, so come help reach that many more children in our communities.

Dora and Elmo are coming to J4K in Madison


Wow! Elmo and Dora will be at Just 4 kids Consignment & Boutique, located at 322 Main Streein Madison, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, May 4.


Free food and drinks, coloring, prizes and more! Also, a professional photographer will be there to do pictures. Spread the news! All kids are invited.

Boone County Housing Authority


The Boone County Housing Authority will be making a change to its administrative plan and implementing a $50 minimum TTP for all Section 8 recipients effective July 1, 2013. They will have a comment period until April 30, 2013.

BMH Auxiliary Scholarships


Boone Memorial Hospital Auxiliary has set a deadline date for their 2013 scholarships. The auxiliary presents 7 scholarships per year for students who are pursuing an education in the medical field.


The scholarships include three $1,000 scholarships and four $500 dollar scholarships. You must have already been accepted into a medical program of study to be approved. The deadline for the submission of the applications is April 30, 2013.


The recipients will be notified before May 31, 2013.


You may pick up an application at the auxiliary desk at Boone Memorial Hospital on Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. They should be returned to the same location before April 30th.


These scholarships are not limited to high school students, anyone pursuing a degree, or certification, in a medical field will be considered.


Appalachian Council Head Start/Pre-K


Appalachian Council Head Start is now accepting applications for the 2013-2014 school year. Children must be 3 or 4 years old by Sept. 1, 2013. Services are available for children with disabilities or special needs.


There is no fee required for entrance into Head Start.


Information needed to apply includes verification of income for a 12 month period, birth certificate from vital statistics, immunization record and social security card (optional).


Head Start staff is scheduled for door to door recruitment in all areas of Boone County on Friday, April 19. If you would like to schedule an appointment or someone to stop by your home, or if you would like to schedule a time to come into our office to complete an application, please contact our Boone County office at 304-369-1000 or 1-877-539-2242.


Head Start/Pre-K locations include Brookview Elementary, Danville Head Start, Prenter Head Start, Racine Head Start, Ramage Elementary, Wharton Elementary and Whitesville Elementary.

Madison VFW Post 5578 is building a Veteran’s Memorial to honor mothers of veterans and veterans. Purchase a brick for $50.
