Boone County native Jesco White, who recently celebrated his 53rd birthday on July 30, says that fame has made him miserable and he’s ready to throw in the towel and retire from the spotlight.

White, who was recently greeted by approximately 2,000 fans during an appearance at the Appalachian Power Park for ‘Jesco White Day,’ says he feels exploited.

“I didn’t even know the sign was up. The least they could have done was asked my permission to use my name,” White said, in reference to a large billboard ad that is on display near the Danville McDonalds.

“One of my family members came to me and told me about the billboard,” White says, claiming that he then contacted his attorney about the ad using his name and likeness.

“Someone told me it cost $2,000 to put it up. Why couldn’t they give me $1,000?” he said.

Instead, the toe-tapping White, best known for his appearance in the documentary, “The Dancing Outlaw,” was paid $500 and all the free food and beverages he wanted to sit and autograph bobbleheads in his likeness at the Appalachian Power Park.

The bobbleheads, which might more aptly be called bobblefeet, portray White in jeans and a baseball cap.

Their feet, like those of the Dancing Outlaw himself, appear to be dancing when shaken.

The bobble-headed White has appeared on e-Bay, fetching as much as $60 if signed.

“They gave me 250 of them and I still have some left,” he says, pulling one from a pile.

“All of this has got me a big name and made me famous, but it’s not made me rich,” White said.

However, White says he is just as concerned about the possibility of losing his disability check that he has been receiving for the past 17 years if he makes too much money.

“I got saved in my living room three weeks ago. I’ve been telling everyone that I found God and I’m trying to live a Christian life,” he said. “I’ve been praying to God to keep my anger away,” says White, who is quick to share that part of his personality disorder makes him feel as though there are a thousand people living inside him.

White says part of his plans to retire is the hope that he will be viewed as “normal again or a person who’s respected.”

“I know I’m very special now because I got saved by God.”

The Madison resident says he adores his fans. “I appreciate the fans coming out to see me. I didn’t know half of them. I was happy, too, that people like me that much.”

“One of the reasons I’m going through all of this torment is to get out of this town,” he said.

White says he would like to retire to somewhere pretty and close to a doctor and stores.

“Just let people know that Jesco White will be retiring from show business,” he said, further stating that his decision was based on getting tired of money lovers and some jealous family members.

“Where it’s getting so hard on me is where people will stop me and are always asking me about shows and such,” he said.

“I do have one more show coming up in Huntington,” he says, “After August 15, I’m quitting until the price gets right. I’m not going to say I am; and I aint going to say I aint.”

I am happy that he is getting out of show business. He is a disgrace to the good people of Boone County!!! We get made fun of all over the world because of him. Drug testing for those people who get state monies would be nice. It would eliminate people like White abusing the system. Perhaps someone should call disability and ask them some of the questions that has been posted on this site.....

I feel the same way, about him collecting tax payers money. Don't get me started on the disability thing he is about to move around on a stage and in front of cameras but can work a job. Wendy’s or a gas station clerk could be a easy job for him. I wish the would pass that bill for drug testing for state assistance checks. That would cut don’t of WV budget a lot.

I moved to this county in 83' and I saw the video of the dancin drunk/dopehead and I could not beleive what I just viewed and shook my head in disbelief!

You can put a tux on a pig and it is still a pig!

I wonder how can you retire when you have collected welfare all of your life from people who did and pay taxes!

I am glad to see that Jesco is entertaining the thought of retirement. FROM WHAT ?? Has he ever held a legitimate, wage earning, occupation. How can he draw welfare disability, when he is able to dance all over Boone County.

Abe Lincoln was once quoted as saying, "Better To Be Thought Of As Ignorant---Than To Open Ones Mouth And Remove All Doubt". Must be a Forrest Gump thing, "Stupid Is--As Stupid Does".

You are right Camp Creeker. He is the joke of West Virginia. I have lived in N.C. for 10 yrs now and a lot of people have asked me not know I was from Boone county, "Is that what West Virginias are really like." He has made the stereo type become true in some people’s eyes. I to hope he retires that way West Virginia and Boone County can reclaim some dignity. Also let those riding on his name drop it was well. Just find something else to perform about, if you must.
